5 Tips for a Free Friday Night

Members of the debt-relief community know how important it is to save money. We are all trying to better manage our finances, cut down on credit card debt and avoid the pitfalls of debt consolidation or debt settlement.
To that end, we strive to find ways do things cheaply. We want to avoid credit card debt but we don’t want to miss out on having fun. So, if you want to have a good time on a Friday night, but don’t want to spend money to do so, here are a few tips to get you started. Please make some of your own suggestions in the comment box listed below.
- Check out books and movies from the library. Using the library for fun is a slightly antiquated notion (after all, when was the last time you had a rollicking good time in the non-fiction stacks?), but you can usually find fairly new movies and the latest best-selling books.
- Picnic in the park. Fall is just starting and the weather is beautiful. Take your family or your sweetheart to the park for a light meal. Afterward you can play games, tell stories or just talk.
- Shakespeare in the park. Most major cities, and some small ones, have a local Shakespeare company that does a showing of Shakespeare’s plays during the warmer months. This is a great opportunity to pass the time with family and the entrance is usually free.
- Donate your time. Nobody wants to sacrifice their Friday night, but giving your time for your fellow man can be very rewarding. Nothing makes you appreciate the things you have more than spending time with those that are less fortunate, and giving your time and energy to others can help you take your mind off your own problems. Research your local homeless shelters to find one that needs volunteers.
- Play games at home. This used to be a much more popular pastime. Families would sit around the kitchen table or huddle together on the living room floor over a board game or a stack of cards. This has fallen out of fashion, but you can have a surprising amount of fun during a friendly competition with your family and friends. Plus, everyone has a deck of cards lying around!
