Wealth-Building Blend

In the last blend we discussed different ways to cool your house and save money; today MSN Money shows us how simply switching the lightbulbs you use can shed dollars off your monthly electric bill.

They’re called compact fluorescent lights, and they are popular because you only have to replace them every 8,000 hours, compared to every 750 for incandescents. They cost more than incandescents, but you will save money over the long term by not having to replace your bulbs as frequently.

Also, the bulbs use 23 watts per hour less to light than regular incandescents. For each bulb this saves you up to $7.15 over a 12 month period. Multiply that by the number of bulbs in your house and that’s a decent amount of money. For those of us struggling with debt, saving every cent or dollar helps.

A final incentive to buy CFLs: GE is offering a $1 discount off every purchase through the month of July.
