With the holidays looming on the horizon, frugal shoppers everywhere are searching for creative yet affordable gifts for friends and family.
Bakeware
The Food Network has brought cooking back into to the mainstream of American life. Because of its popularity, new cooks are emerging everywhere. And, affordable bakewar for these cooks make great gifts. You can purchase affordable cookware at restaurant supply stores for less than other retailers. Buy a cookie sheet and some mixing bowls; and when you wrap the gift, include your favorite cookie recipe. This is a creative and affordable gift for the cook (or chef in the making) in your life.
Think Smaller
If you want to buy someone on your list an expensive leather coat or cashmere sweater, but you don’t have the funds; think on a smaller scale. You can get a nice pair of leather gloves or a cashmere scarf for a fraction of the price at upscale super stores – and you can buy the wrapping supplies while you’re there, too.
Bring The Bubbly
Stop by your local beer and wine store, and ask the wine expert for advice. You can get a nice bottle of champagne for a holiday party at an affordable price. (Usually less than $15-$20.)
Accessories
If someone else is buying an MP3 player, video game system or cell phone for a loved one on your holiday shopping list, then consider buying accessories. Wireless remotes and controllers, carrying cases and headphones complement these items perfectly, and they won’t break your budget.
Indulge
Candy is a great gift – but go big. Find out the favorite candy of someone on your list. Buy a couple large bags, and stuff a funky-shaped vase or box with it. The candy will last until next year (maybe), which makes this gift long lasting as well as thoughtful.
Get Wordy
Give the gift of words. You can purchase box sets of book series for less than buying each book individually – or you can try a used book store for this as well. Books are great gifts for kids, and for the parents, you may consider a magazine subscription.
These gift ideas are easy and fun. They won’t break your budget, and most importantly they will highlight your thoughtfulness.
