As technology continues to grow, shopping becomes more eclectic and convenient. Gift cards have become a staple in holiday gift-giving. They have become one of, if not the, most popular items to give as gifts. They are practical because they allow the recipient to purchase items they really want - as opposed to giving them your best guess.

Gift cards are easy to purchase and even easier to wrap. So, as you head to the stores or online to purchase gift cards this season; keep these points about gift cards in mind:

Shop Smartly Only purchase gift cards from reputable stores and websites. Also, keep your receipt in the event there is trouble redeeming the card.

Know The Deal Read the fine print. Most retailers’ cards do not expire or charge fees, but some do. Additionally, bank gift cards and gift cards with credit card logos can charge fees for activation, transactions and checking the card’s balance.

Register Instruct the recipient to register his or her gift card on the store’s website. This will allow for the card to be replaced if it is lost. Also, it is an easy way to keep track of how much money is on the card.

Make It Personal Many stores allow you to personalize the card you are gifting. Check out the retailer’s website to see if you can pick the color, design or add the recipient’s name to the card.

Gift cards are the ideal gift for just about everyone on your list. And, many young people list them as top items on their wish lists. They’re easy to purchase, and they give the recipient the ability to choose something they want or need. It also gives the recipient a free shopping trip that allows them to choose their own treasure.
